Following is a list of freeware that provides tools for managing and presenting EH&S data. Before you access any software or apps, please read our disclaimer and permissions page if you haven't already done so.

AERMAP
By US Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS). A terrain preprocessor for AERMOD. AERMAP processes commercially available Digital Elevation Data and creates a file suitable for use within an AERMOD control file. This file would contain elevation and hill-height scaling factors for each receptor in the air dispersion study.

ANNIE (for DOS)
By US Geological Survey (USGS). Designed to help users interactively store, retrieve, list, plot, check, and update spatial, parametric, and time-series data for hydrologic models and analyses. Data are stored in a direct access file called a Watershed Data Management (WDM) file.

AnSWR Analysis Software for Word-based Records
By US Center for Disease Control (CDC). A software system for coordinating and conducting large-scale, team-based analysis projects that integrate qualitative and quantitative techniques.

Environmental Information Management System (EIMS)
By US Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development. Environmental Information Management System (EIMS) focuses on the organization of descriptive information (metadata) for data sets, databases, documents, models, projects, and spatial data. Use EIMS to create, query and retrieve metadata, as well as download environmental data sets, databases, models, and other information submitted by EIMS partners and the general public.

Epi Info
By US Center for Disease Control (CDC). With Epi Info and a personal computer, epidemiologists and other public health and medical professionals can rapidly develop a questionnaire or form, customize the data entry process, and enter and analyze data. Epidemiologic statistics, tables, graphs, and maps are produced with simple commands such as READ, FREQ, LIST, TABLES, GRAPH, and MAP. Epi Map displays geographic maps with data from Epi Info.

EpiData
By EpiData Association. A tool for simple or programmed data entry and for data documentation. After data have been entered, users can produce data listings as well as frequency tables (codebook) with summary descriptive statistics. Based on the file formats of Epi Info.

GEOEAS (for DOS)
By US Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development, National Risk Management Research Laboratory, Center for Subsurface Modeling Support. GEOEAS is a collection of interactive software tools for performing two-dimensional geostatistical analyses of spatially distributed data. The principal functions of the package are the production of grids and contour maps of interpolated (kriged) estimates from sample data. GEOEAS can produce data maps, univariate statistics, scatter plots/linear regression, and variogram computation and model fitting.

GEOPACK (for DOS)
By US Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development, National Risk Management Research Laboratory, Center for Subsurface Modeling Support. GEOPACK is a comprehensive geostatistical software package that allows both novice and advanced users to undertake geostatistical analyses of spatially correlated data. The program generates graphics (i.e., linear or logarithmic line plots, contour and block diagrams); computes basic statistics (i.e., mean, median, variance, standard deviation, skew, and kurtosis); runs programs for linear regression, polynomial regression, and Kolomogorov-Smirnov tests; calculates linear estimations and nonlinear estimations; and determines sample semivariograms and cross-semivariograms.

HEC-DSSVue
By US Army Corps of Engineers. The Hydrologic Engineering Center Data Storage System, or HEC-DSS, is a database system designed to efficiently store and retrieve scientific data that is typically sequential. Such data types include, but are not limited to, time series data, curve data, spatial-oriented gridded data, and others. The system was designed to make it easy for users and application programs to retrieve and store data. HEC-DSS is incorporated into most of HECís major application programs. Data in HEC-DSS database files can be graphed, tabulated, edited and manipulated with HEC-DSSVue, a Java-based visual utilities program. HEC-DSSVue is supported for Microsoft Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP, and Sun Solaris (Unix).

HSPEXP (for Data General AViiON)
By US Geological Survey (USGS). Allows the user to edit the input file for the Hydrologic Simulation Program -- Fortran (HSPF), simulate with HSPF, produce plots of HSPF output compared to observed values, compute error statistics for a simulation, and provide the user with expert advice on which parameters should be changed up or down to improve the calibration. By US Environmental Protection Agency, Technology Innovation Office. Used to screen diskette data deliverables generated under USEPA Statement of Work OLM03.X. This software may be used as a tool to aide CLP laboratories in identifying potential defects in the electronic data.

IOWDM (for DOS)
By US Geological Survey (USGS). Input and Output for a Watershed Data Management (WDM) file (IOWDM) is designed to reformat data to and from a WDM file. Data in selected WATSTORE card-image formats and flat file formats can be added to a WDM file.

Include AIDE (ANNIE Interactive Development Environment), GRAPH (interface to Graphical Kernel System (GKS)), UTIL (for manipulating character strings, numbers, and dates), and WDM (Watershed Data Management file system). UNIX source code is available.

LIBANNE (for DOS)
By US Geological Survey (USGS). A collection of related libraries for use in hydrologic applications, including a data base (WDM), graphics, and interactive user interface (AIDE).

LIBUTL (for Data General AViiON)

Map Maker Gratis
By Map Maker Ltd. Make, edit and view maps. Gives students and novice users the opportunity to learn the basics of map making and GIS. Gratis can also be used to distribute map projects and data.

MODFLOW-GUI (for Windows 95/98 or NT)
By US Geological Survey (USGS). Preprocessor and postprocessor graphical-user interfaces for preparing MODFLOW-96 and MOC3D input data and viewing model output for use within Argus Open Numerical Environments (Argus ONE). Source code is available.

SPAW
By US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service. SPAW (Soil, Plant, Atmosphere, Water) is a water budgeting tool for farm fields, ponds and inundated wetlands. The SPAW model performs daily hydrologic water budgeting using the SCS Runoff Curve Number method.

SUTRA-GUI (for Windows 95/98 and NT)
By US Geological Survey (USGS). Preprocessor and postprocessor graphical-user interface for preparing SUTRA input data and for viewing model output for use within Argus Open Numerical Environments (Argus ONE). Source code is available.

TDDS (Time-Dependent Data System) (for Data General AViiON)

Vis5D
By Visualization Project at University of Wisconsin-Madison Space and Engineering Center (SSEC). Vis5D is a system for interactive visualization of large 5-D gridded data sets such as those produced by numerical weather models. One can make isosurfaces, contour line slices, colored slices, volume renderings, etc of data in a 3-D grid, then rotate and animate the images in real time. There's also a feature for wind trajectory tracing, a way to make text annotations for publications, support for interactive data analysis, etc.
