Following is a list of freeware that provides a list of environmental news and weather resources. Before you access any software or apps, please read our disclaimer and permissions page if you haven't already done so.

AIRNow
By Cross-Agency U.S. Government. The U.S. EPA, NOAA, NPS, tribal, state, and local agencies developed the AIRNow Web site to provide the public with easy access to national air quality information. The Web site offers daily AQI forecasts as well as real-time AQI conditions for over 300 cities across the US, and provides links to more detailed State and local air quality Web sites.

Chemical Safety Multimedia Room
By US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB). Look at current news stories and archived videos on chemical incidents.

Dust Storm App
By University of Arizona. To help protect drivers from dust-related dangers on the road, the University of Arizona has created a mobile application for iPhones that provides dust storm alerts and safety tips. The app uses a person's geographical location anywhere in the United States to determine if there is danger of a dust storm, or any other type of storm, in the area. The warnings come directly from the WeatherBug service.

Earthwatch Radio
By University of Wisconsin-Madison. Listen to a wide range of subjects that concern science and the environment, with special attention given to global climate change, the Great Lakes and the oceans.

EPA News
By US Environmental Protection Agency. Look at press releases, announcements, and headlines from the US EPA.

Florida Environment Radio

Green TV
By United Nations Environment Programme. green.tv is the broadband TV channel for environmental films. green.tv is the first website to bring together films from a whole range of environmental organisations and independent filmmakers and make them available to anyone anywhere.

Interactive Weather Information Network
By National Weather Service. Check out active warnings of flash floods, floods, hurricanes/tropical storms, special marine warnings, non-precipitation events, severe thunderstorms, and tornado activity in the United States.

Internet Weather Source
By National Weather Service. Get detailed weather information worldwide by locality.

Living on Earth
By NPR (National Public Radio). Living on Earth is the weekly environmental news and information program distributed by National Public Radio.

mPING
By US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This app lets users anonymously report precipitation from their Apple or Android mobile device. With the mPING app, anyone can send a weather observation on the go. The user simply opens the app, selects the type of precipitation that is falling at his or her location, and presses submit. The user’s location and the time of the observation are automatically included in the report. All submissions will become part of a research project called PING – Precipitation Identification Near the Ground.

National Hurricane Center
By National Weather Service. Check this for forecasts, warnings, and analyses of tropical storm events.

National Hydrologic Assessment
By National Weather Service. Check out the potential for flooding or drought in the United States.

Nationwide Air Quality Forecast
By Cross-Agency U.S. Government. Nationwide daily air quality forecasts provided by State and local Air Agencies for over 300 major U.S. cities.

nowCOAST
By US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NowCOAST is a Web mapping portal providing coastal communities with real-time observations and NOAA forecasts. It allows users to view real-time surface observations "on-the-map" along with the latest GOES satellite cloud imagery, and NOAA National Weather Service weather radar images. The GOES imagery is updated every half hour and the weather radar mosaic is updated every 15 minutes.
